Do your kids beg for rainbow cereal? Mine do. And it drives me bonkers because they ONLY eat the marshmallows 🤪 so we did a little experiment today. We counted 270 marshmallows (by 2s) in a box of @luckycharms. Before we started, we each made a guess of how many marshmallows we would find. We counted by 10s and used tally marks to track each set of 10. Next, we attempted to count the “boring” pieces but we lost our minds trying. As you can see, we have one heaping 16oz mason jar of marshmallows to two scant 32oz jars. I wanted to determine ratio but my guess is about 5 to 1. Wondering if @generalmillscereal will reveal the main count? Of the 270 marshmallows, there were only 8 Lucky Clovers! The balloons and hearts were 40 and 42, respectively, and the rest were all around 30 each. We also had a talk about how it costs less to make rice cereal than marshmallows so if the box had more marshmallows it would cost ALOT more. This is hysterical. I am an enneagram 4w3 and I do love me some @wholefoods BUT my first love is and will always be @wegmans Alas there is no Wegs in Memphis,TN😭 I also enjoy Strengths Finders and of course Myers-Briggs. My SF is connectedness, communication, strategic, maximizer and woo. My MB is unsurprisingly ENFP. I enjoy reading these because I appreciate the perspective and self-awareness that comes from understanding my wiring. This little bowl of sunshine took me about 8 minutes to make. About as long as it took my French Press to brew. One egg, spinach, avocado and cherry tomatoes, each sautéed individually in cast iron. H/T to bestie @ashleygibert for turning me onto egg and avocado. So this #wholehearted30 started as a food thing. I’ve done many months of #whole30 eating over the past 4 years and love how I feel when I am eating clean. But after a big life change, I’ve had a terrible time getting back into a cooking routine. Kids are older, life is fuller with running kids around town and the time it takes to plan and prepare has continually tripped me up. Too many nights with no plan and pizza delivery! However, the “heart” behind my WholeHEARTED30 isn’t really cleaning up my diet. It’s cleaning up my mind (and my desk, see last post 🤦🏻‍♀️🙈🤣) True to my goal, I spent dedicated time last night and tonight planning ahead for the next day. While I realize I’m only two days in, so far so good! This small effort to organize my day the night before has lowered my stress, kept my eating clean, and actually freed up more of my time. I’m not exactly sure how that happened but I found myself with “free time” both yesterday and today. I forgot what that feels like! This little bit of effort is paying off big returns! I’ve been using the iPhone calendar app on my phone to plot the course for my day, but I think there must be a better app to do this? If you have a calendar app or other electronic scheduler app you love please let me know! See this? This is my dining room table aka my office. Does this stress you out? Yeah, me too. I realized that my problem isn’t passion or drive or commitment. My problem is preparing. I get too excited and jump in too fast which leads to messy desks and defeat. For the month of June I commit to spending no less than 30 minutes each night preparing for the next day. My plan is to take things one day at a time. I’m not going to try planning too far out bc things inevitably change and throw off my “plans” and I throw in the towel on my goals. If I can establish some healthy planning patterns that allow for the unexpected while pushing forward with my goals I should be able to stay on track. At least that’s the idea. During my 30 minutes I will decide: 1. What we will eat, when we will eat, and what I need to do to prep and actually cook the food 2. Activities we will do for the next day (3 kids ages almost 5, 6 & 7) I am going to keep it simple. The idea is to know exactly what I will do when my feet hit the ground. Some people are all about waking up super early to do this but I have never had success with that. My hope is that this 30 minutes will become my nightly routine that I can shorten or expand as needed. Because my hang up isn’t finding recipes, sticking to healthy eating, or the actual cooking. It’s knowing exactly what I need to do and when I need to do it. And as my dear husband told me when I shared this with him, “just like GI Joe, knowing is half the battle” lol 😆 I’ll keep sharing more as the days progress but I wanted to share my “WholeHEARTED30 goal with y’all so you will HOLD ME TO IT! It will be interesting to see how a little bit of planning may be the small effort I’ve been missing. I’ve been reading a book called “Made for This” by @jenniesallen that talks about purpose and knowing why God put you on this green earth in the first place. Early on she posed a question about “effort” along the lines of “What would a small amount effort look like in your life?” Effort toward purpose, goals, changes, surrender, forgiveness, health, wellness, that business idea, that reading goal, that half-hearted blog (guilty), that summertime bucket list, saving for that out of reach trip, investigating that service opportunity, anything really. The idea was that we were made to do more than we believe we can do and a little bit of effort could make all the difference. If I am being honest, I’ve been lazy. My family made a big move two summers ago and I have let the “transition” excuse run its course. Don’t get me wrong. We run hard. We serve others. I work part-time in marketing in the fringe hours after homeschooling our kids. We are not sitting around on our bums. We are physically busy but my mind has been on autopilot. I’m stuck in a survival mode mentality that is long past it’s expiration date. And I want to suck every last drop of life out of my days on God’s green earth. The days of “one day I’ll...” are over. I’m ready to go all in and live this life Wholeheartedly. But I also know that I am much better at the sprint than the marathon. My long game is embarrassing. My MO is a big burst of energy and excitement up front that is unsustainable for the long-haul. So what I pose is this: For June, who is in to pick ONE thing to do WHOLEHEARTEDLY? A #WholeHEARTED30 Pick one thing to put a “little effort” toward and commit to following thru for 30 days? Your one thing may be a perfect Whole30 or it may be giving up sugar for 30 days. It may be reading an hour a day for 30 days to get through that summer reading list or 30 days of exercising 15 minutes a day. Whatever you choose to put a “little effort” toward is up to you. My hope and prayer is that it will be 30 days of stopping something mediocre so that we can spend 30 days doing one thing that could change everything. #madeforthis #summergoals #wholeheartedly #enneagram4 #smallsteps
