israel day 1

well, we made it to tel aviv. before i go much further, please understand that i am not using a rel computer but a internet kiosk like ive never seen. so please bear with my typos and lack of punctuation.

i only have a few minutes but we all wanted to check in with our friends back home and say we are here, we are safe, and we are loving it.

after landing, we took a bus directly to joppa – the oldest port in israel. there was alot of neat jonah history to learn there, you know, jonah and the whale? well, we sttod and looked out over the medeteranan sea at the same place jonah did centuries ago as he set sail, fleeing from god’s call on his life to preach repentance to the people of nineva. jonah’s retrebution for running from god was three nights in the belly of a whale somewhere over the medeteranian sea. its still difficult to grasp such ancient history. america is sooooo young compared to the history we are experiencing here. i also learned today that nineva is still around today. you may have heard of mosul iraq? well that ws the same nineva god wanted jonah to preach to. puts jonah’s apprehension into perspective.

a couple of other interesting points to note:

we witnessed the rituals of a group of orthodox jewish men while on the plane. their customs weer very new to me, i will be explaining more about this when i have a computer and not a kiosk…

while in joppa we did hear the muslim call to prayer. we were not expectng that and for brian and me it brought back memories of last summer. its so wild to realize the worlds primary monotheistic religons all consider this their holy land. you can already sense the tension and we are only still in tel aviv.

our hotel tonight is on the med. sea so breathtaking. we had some time to walk along the shore line, the water was crystal clear and cold!! but that didnt stop brian and edward from diving in for swim while jeff kai and me ate ice cream and watched from the beach!

joel will speakin a few minutes so i need to wrap for now. please continue to pray for us. we head out for tiberias earrly tomorrow. i am hoping that the next hotel has better options for being online.

before i sign off, if any of you have questions please leave a comment and we will be glad to answer back. israel is rich with history and we will all have so much to share over the coming days.

thanks for tuning in. wish u were here!!
