Unreached People in Brazil

I read a post today on my friend John’s blog about an isolated tribe discovered in Brazil. The story first posted on the BBC website and included really moving aerial shots of the tribe.

A few years ago, Brian and I prayed through a missions devotional and one of the stories stuck in my mind. It was about missionaries to Brazil who are trying to make contact with people like those in the photo above. The Brazilian government works diligently to prevent outside contact with the tribe, primarily for the tribes’ own safety from disease. However; for missionaries, how are they to reach these people groups with the Gospel?

I will admit that I am guilty of believing that countries like Brazil are “reached” because the dominant religious group in Central and South America is Christianity.

But when I see photos like this, I wonder how many more tribes like this are out there? According to the Joshua Project, there are 57 unreached people groups in Brazil. And how can we reach them if making contact could mean disease and death for the unreached. Not to mention that fact they have weapons and war paint and look ready to spear someone.

I guess the point of this post is just to say look: these guys are out there. and they are more than likely animists. When we are praying “thy kingdom come” lets not forget about them and pray that God will make a way for isolated tribes to hear the Gospel.

  1. Such a cool thought. My brother (who just graduated from high school) just arrived in Brazil yesterday to spend the summer there as an intern to a local pastor. Maybe he will be able to reach some of these people. I am sending him to your link to read this. You can see some pics of him on my blog http://www.thelemondsfamily.blogspot.com

    Hi, Annie:

I found this page of yours by searching for unreached tribes. I appreciate you sharing this information with us, and I agree with your assessment that we need to reach these people, as well as all others, no matter the costs and dangers. God will do it. We just have to begin with prayer, as you suggested, and then He will lead us. His Word says that every single tribe on the earth will be represented at His throne, so someone from this tribe, and all others, must find Jesus before He will come back.

Thank you again, and God bless you and yours,

  4. God is going to do great great things in this year, 2010.
People of God, here is the word of the LORD:
    Isaiah 43:6-7 (New International Version)

6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’
    Bring my sons from afar
and my daughters from the ends of the earth-

7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
    whom I formed and made.”

It is the year of the manifestation of the glory of God.
    Prepare.
You will see His Kingdom come!
You will see salvation upon this tribe so as the other unreached.

Dear beloved, press on and know God more and you will see God move supernaturally with you.
Encounter God like Moses, like Joshua.
    Jesus Himself do it.
Hunger for more of Him and you’ll see what He’s gonna do to this tribe.
