The past two weeks at Frontline, John McGowan has led us through a series called CRAVE.
Based on the verses in 1 Corinthians 10, John has challenged us to realize that our souls were created to crave Jesus Christ and a personal relationship with him, keep our cravings in check, and ask God to show us what we crave and, if needed, ask Him to help us redirect our cravings toward Christ.
This series has had a huge impact on me personally and last night there was a breakthrough. I have been struggling with some of the same sins over and over again my entire life. And last night as I prayed to God about what my soul really craved, I was surprised by the answer. I thought my temptations and craving had to do with food, but last night God showed me that its deeper than that and as he shines his marvelous light into my own personal darkness and struggles, I am realizing that the root of the craving is much different than the physical manifestation of what I pursue to satisfy these cravings. I was surprised to hear God saying that he wants to minister to me and connect to me on a deep heart level that I am not sure I have ever been fully open to until last night.
I am still processing this, but I wanted to share it here to encourage others of you who are in a relationship with Jesus or who want to be… that He can be found, and he can be the sole satisfaction of what your soul craves.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
The truth of this verse is: we will experience temptation and God WILL provide a way out and God will NOT let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.
I am excited to see how God continues to shine his marvelous light into my soul, redirect my cravings so that I am truly satisfied in Jesus, and how he provides a way out of the temptations that come. Next time, I will be looking and expecting the way out to appear. Lord give me the wisdom and maturity to recognize the way out!
We ended Frontline last night with a song by Charlie Hall, Marvelous Light. This song spoke so deeply to me, I wanted to share it in hopes that it encourages others as much as it has encouraged me.
I once was fatherless, a stranger with no hope;
Your kindness wakened me, Awakened me, from my sleep.
Your love it beckons deeply, a call to come and die.
By grace now I will come And take this life, take your life.
Sin has lost it’s power, death has lost it’s sting.
From the grave you’ve risen
Into marvelous light I’m running,
Out of darkness, out of shame.
By the cross you are the truth,
You are the life, you are the way.
My dead heart now is beating,
My deepest stains now clean.
Your breath fills up my lungs.
Now I’m free. Now I’m free!
Lift my hands and spin around,
See the light that i have found.
Oh the marvelous light
Lift my hands and spin
See the light within…

Let me just say that I am so glad that I was there with you last night to hear those words. I am still processing all of it too and am looking forward to some time this week where I can continue to do so.
That song was wonderful and I have been singing it ever since I left you last night. I needed to hear those words.
Today I have been praying Psalm 139 over and over. I want God to show me what things I am craving, and giving in to. I know what some of them are, but I know that there are some deeper cravings that I have that I am filling up with JUNK and not allowing God to satisfy. Again, I am still processing but I look forward to you and I continuing this conversation.
I would love to continue this conversation with you over the next few weeks. I am looking forward to the other sermons in the series, please don’t forget to send me the links.
I LOVE YOU!!!
